Lowell’s only blemish in the RCA regular season was a loss to Coopersville where they used depth in all disciplines to defeat the Arrows at Kenowa Hills. On paper the RCA conference meet looked very similar to the regular season and as such the Arrows were hunting for enough medals and points that would earn us a runner up finish and land five or six Arrows on the ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM. When it was finished Lowell locked up send place and had Kendall Schmuker, Emma Putnam, Harper Schaedig, Olivia Lothian, and Brynne Schmuker all earning all-conference recognition. Kendall Schmuker earned the honors by being the conference champion in the three sprints as she won the 100m (13.04 PR), 200m (27.35 PR), and the 400m (61.46 PR). She closed the day by leading off the 1600m relay team along with Audrey Latchaw, Emma Putnam, and Ashley Pohl for a 3rd place finish. Putnam had a great meet as she finished 4th in the 110H going 17.63, 4th in the 300h going 50.79, and taking 7th in the 1600m. She ended the night with 13.5 points earning her AC honors. Schaedig landed a 5th in the LJ (15-04 PR), 4th in the 200m (27.95 PR), and joined Ruby German, Taylor Graham, and Laney Bieneman to grab 2nd in the 400m relay. Her 12.25 points were enough to get a spot on the AC team. Olivia Lothian scored all her points on Thursday as she took 2nd in the PV (11-00), 7th in the LJ (15-02), and tied for 8th in the HJ (4-08 PR) giving her 10.33 which was one point above the cut-off. Brynne Schmuker hit the 9.25 cutoff as she was tied with three other girls with the final point total. Brynne earned her points on both days with a 8th place finish in the PV (7-06), 7th place in the 200m (28.55), 4th place in the 400m (64.71 PR) and was part of the 4th place 800m relay team joining Graham, Schaedig, and Bieneman. Seniors Audrey Latchaw and Anika Huhn both snagged medals in their events with a 4th in the 800 and 6th in the 300H respectively. In the throws Ellery Bieneman snagged two medals taking 4th in the shot put (32-00.5 PR) and 8th in the discus with a toss of 92-05. Teammate Avary Slanger grabbed the 6th place medal in the shot put with a 29-08.50 throw which also as a PR. It was a great meet with kids competing and teammates supporting and cheering each other. This is why we coach and seeing these behaviors are what it is about. There were also 20 personal records set over the two days. The old saying of “trust the process” continues to come true as the Red Arrows are performing their best at the end of the season. Lowell’s JV members will try to get one more good mark as they will go to Kenowa Hills on Tuesday for the JV Conference meet. Lowell’s varsity members will be at Portage Central on Saturday for the MHSAA regional meet.
